Leaving
Manali, We drive Over Rohthang Pass into
Chandra Valley. Glimpses of Mountain Summits
and tremendous Glaciers all along the
Valley as we drive on the bank of Chandra
on a non paved track. Once we cross the
Kunzum Pass, the Spiti Valley offers a
typical desert look, with barren reddish
mountains and only sign of vegetation
are the fields surrounding the Villages.
Apart from acclimatization reasons, it
is highly advisable to spend another two
days to visit some interesting monasteries
(Tabo, Dhankar, Kye, Lalung, Komik) in
Spiti, meeting its friendly people and
some high altitude drives through fossil
- strewn trails.
Start the Trek from Gulling in Pin Valley,
Valley which practices Nyingma - Pa (the
tantric or shamanistic) form of Buddhism.
Were as in rest of the Spiti apart from
Sakya pa monastery at Komik and Kaza,
the Ge-lug-pa (more academic or philosophy
based) form of Buddhism is practiced.
This
route provides an easy access for the
Shepard’s and natives of Kinnaur
and Spiti to cross over to one another’s
region. Trek over Bhaba (Kari - Khango
in native language) (4890Mts) Pass is
the splendid trail providing dramatic
a change in landscape. To one side lies
Pin Valley in Spiti with extraordinary
vista of bare, chocolate - colored mountains
to the other the lush green Valley of
Bhaba in Kinnaur. The climb to the top
of the pass involves a walk through moraine,
scree, boulder fields and a push through
the snowfields to the top. Once we descend
to the Valley floor towards Kinnaur, Massive
flower fields pave the way. Great opportunity
to explore the rare Himalayan Flora, especially
in July - Aug. Widely extended colorful
meadows takes the breaths away by there
sheer beauty.
After
completing the trek one can either opt
to drive straight to Shimla or visit the
Sangla - Kalpa and other interesting places
in Kinnaur before leaving for Shimla.
